Did you know that pregnant women have been fired for using the bathroom to vomit, needing to carry a water bottle on the job, or asking to sit on a stool instead of standing in place all day? While employers have to make allowances like these for other types of temporary disabilities, a number of bad court decisions have encouraged them to feel they can get away with firing or mistreating pregnant workers with impunity.
It’s disgraceful and unacceptable that at a time when unnecessary budget cuts are decimating food, medical, and educational supports for low-income families, pregnant women continue to be pushed out of their jobs just as they take on all the expenses of having a new baby.

5/18/13: Doctor Who, soreness, and yesterday.
So I forgot to make a post yesterday but I’m pretty sure I didn’t forget anything (besides making a post) so yay!
Today I forgot that I follow British people and that they would be watching and blogging the Doctor Who finale so I got spoiled that 8.5 was in it (I’m not going to call him 9) but I was spoiled about who/what 8.5 is last week so it didn’t matter that much. But yeah I was spoiled and avoided tumblr until like midnight when i was done watching the episode.
I’m also sore behind my knees and can’t remember what I possibly did today that would make me sore… Oh well
Plus I forgot the name of “The Fault in Our Stars” and convinced myself its name was “The Truth in the Stars” for like 10 minutes…
Eh I guess I wasn’t that forgetful today… But seriously why am I sore what did I do…?

I was going to just like this but then there was Jack Sparrow. Twice.

So, I paint my nails pretty regularly these days. I also work as a barista/cashier pretty regularly these days. A few weeks back, I had a customer come in, a fairly typical, sheltered, suburban soccer mom, and she ordered a latte from me. She saw my brightly colored nails and said, “Wow, you’re so brave! My son asked me about painting his nails, and if it’s okay for boys to do that. Now I’ll tell him there’s a cool guy who does it too!” It was a nice moment, very cute.
Then, last week, she came in again, and said, “Hey, I’m so glad you’re here! I want you to meet someone!” She then brings her son forward, and says, “Okay sweetie, show him what you did!” And he throws his hands up, showing off his bright, sparkling blue nails. He shows them off, and I show mine off to him. He smiles. We fist bump.
Guys, I’ve only wanted to cry once at work before, and that was when someone ordered a large dry soy cappuccino on ice.
This time, though. This was a good cry.
